## Rosarito Desalination Plant Set to Transform Water Supply and Boost Tourism
Rosarito is poised to receive a significant boost in its water supply infrastructure with the confirmation of a new desalination plant. Announced by Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum, this project forms part of the National Water Plan and involves an estimated investment of 12 billion pesos (approximately $648 million USD).
President Sheinbaum affirmed, “We will make the desalination plant in Baja California a reality.” This initiative is expected to revolutionize water distribution, particularly in South Rosarito, while also safeguarding the integrity of local beaches.
Rosarito’s Mayor, RocÃo Adame, expressed her excitement about the development, highlighting its importance on social media. “The desalination plant is happening! This project will be key to improving water supply in South Rosarito and protecting our beaches,” she stated.

The desalination plant is designated as a Greenfield project and will have a robust production capacity of 2,200 liters per second, ensuring a sustainable water source for the region. The project’s progress has been supported by entities such as Banobras and Fonadin, with their latest reviews conducted earlier this March.
In addition to enhancing water infrastructure, Rosarito is positioning itself as a leader in sustainable tourism. Mayor Adame’s administration is actively seeking National Tourism Quality Certification, a prestigious recognition that underscores exceptional standards and environmental responsibility for destinations across Mexico. Paul Corona RodrÃguez, the president of COTUCO Rosarito, emphasized the importance of this certification, saying, “This certifies quality and sustainability in tourism.”
