**Promising Talent in the Boxing World: A Look at Luis Antonio García Tapia**
At just 19 years old, Luis Antonio García Tapia is quickly becoming a standout talent in the boxing world. Training at Don Pedro Moran’s gym located at the Fausto Gutiérrez Moreno Municipal Auditorium, he’s already gained attention as one of the most promising prospects.
The young fighter from Tijuana has demonstrated impressive skills, earning him the opportunity to train at the prestigious Horbein Quezada Boxing School in Cuba under the guidance of Juan Hernández Sierra, a double Olympic medalist. García Tapia is gearing up with the hope of competing in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
“I’m thrilled to be part of this experience, training alongside top athletes and coaches. Being in Cuba presents a crucial challenge on my path to the Olympics and eventually to leaving a mark in professional boxing,” Luis Antonio shared.
Though he only started boxing three years ago, his rapid progress is evident. “I began boxing at 16 and joined Pedro’s gym at 17. Initially, it was just for fitness, but I fell in love with the sport,” he recalled.
Luis credits his success to the rigorous training under Pedro Moran Jr., whom he regards as an exceptional mentor. “Training with him has been an advantage. He’s taught me all the boxing fundamentals and helped me view the sport differently,” he expressed.
Moran explains the “Por México 2028” project, aiming to groom boxers for the upcoming Los Angeles Olympics. “The aim is to prepare athletes like Luis, who fights at 63 kilograms, for the next Olympic Games. He is dedicated and seizes every opportunity to improve, so I suggested he train in Cuba, where the amateur boxing program is unparalleled,” Moran elaborated.
Luis will spend two years in Cuba, focusing on refining his technical abilities, something that, unfortunately, lacks back home due to the scarcity of expert trainers. On returning, he aims to triumph in the national first-class championship and earn a spot in the national team to represent Mexico in the Olympic process for 2028. The Morans are already established as leading trainers in Tijuana, having guided athletes like Liborio Romero to the Sydney 2000 Olympics.
