IMSS Aid Pledge to Ensenada

IMSS-Bienestar pledges to bolster Ensenada’s medical resources, ensuring continuous services at the General Hospital to safeguard community health and constitutional rights.

**IMSS-Bienestar Pledges to Supply Medical Resources to Ensenada**

In recent developments, the State Coordinator for Baja California’s Health Services under the Mexican Social Security Institute for Welfare (IMSS-Bienestar), Miguel Bernardo Romero Flores, has committed to addressing the resource needs of the General Hospital in Ensenada. This comes after an urgent communication from the hospital’s director, Juan José Godínez Montaño, outlining the necessity to halt medical services due to a resource shortage.

The situation was further exacerbated by verbal confrontations faced by hospital employees when patients were unable to receive medical attention or medications. These issues prompted the request for intervention from the State Coordination. In their response, IMSS-Bienestar assured that continuous efforts are underway with the relevant administrative bodies to meet the hospital’s needs and ensure the normal operation of medical services.

IMSS-Bienestar clarified its focus on assisting individuals without affiliations to social security institutions. Nevertheless, they emphasized that any unilateral action to disrupt medical services poses serious risks to the health and lives of patients and would have severe repercussions on the local community.

Suspending outpatient services could have dire immediate consequences for Ensenada residents relying on these facilities, infringing on their constitutional right to health as per Article 4 of the Mexican Constitution. The State Coordination reaffirmed that the hospital services will continue uninterrupted, with ongoing attention to address and resolve the pressing issues at the medical facility.

The staff was also warned that disregarding these directives could result in breaches of the General Health Law, the General Law of Administrative Responsibilities, and the General Working Conditions of the Ministry of Health.

In response to the broader challenges faced across the healthcare system, IMSS-Bienestar has announced additional financial resources for hospitals under its administration. This initiative aims to alleviate the shortages that have been impacting service delivery and patient care.

Many healthcare workers have voiced concerns over the lack of supplies, medications, and even year-end bonuses, highlighting the ongoing struggles within the system. The promise of extra funding seeks to address these shortages and improve the overall functioning of the facilities, ensuring that health services remain accessible and efficient for those most in need.

Moreover, as Mexico begins the year with a notable increase in formal job opportunities, it seems part of the strategy to tackle health infrastructure and employment simultaneously. While there is still much to be done, these steps indicate a positive movement towards optimizing healthcare provision in the region.
