Husband Charged in Nurse Murder

**Husband Charged as Mastermind in Nurse’s Murder** Manuel N. accused of orchestrating his wife’s murder due to jealousy, facing charges after fatal attack on Gabriela Gutiérrez outside their Tijuana home.

### Husband Accused in Nurse Gabriela Gutiérrez’s Murder Case

Manuel N., the husband of Gabriela Gutiérrez, a nurse from the Maternal and Child Hospital, has been formally charged as the suspected mastermind behind her murder, which occurred on July 12, 2024, outside their home in the Mariano Matamoros Sur neighborhood of Tijuana.

After finishing her work shift, Gabriela was heading home on Batalla de Oaxaca Street in her gray Ford Focus when she was ambushed around 8:35 a.m. by a man wearing a black sweater with a white print. The assailant shot her multiple times, resulting in her death.

During the hearing, details emerged about Gabriela and Manuel’s relationship, which began in 2010 and culminated in marriage in 2014. They had two children together, a 17-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl. Over time, their relationship turned violent, and according to witnesses, Manuel became possessive, jealous, and controlling. He struggled to maintain steady employment, forcing Gabriela to become the family’s sole provider by holding two jobs.

Despite separating, Manuel refused to move out of their shared home. Gabriela began dating someone new in March 2023, which reignited Manuel’s jealousy. In December 2023, Manuel created a scene at her workplace holiday party, verbally attacking her.

Gabriela obtained a loan and agreed to pay Manuel to leave the house by July 12. However, she feared for her safety, believing his family had connections to criminal groups and suspected her car had been tracked with a GPS device.

Evidence and testimonies indicate Manuel orchestrated Gabriela’s murder due to his jealousy. Witnesses described seeing a blue Volkswagen Jetta with “Infinitum” telecommunication logos and a black Volkswagen repeatedly driving around the crime scene. On July 11, a witness was offered 1,000 pesos by Jesús N., a known associate of Manuel, to transport someone to the Boulevard 2000 area the following day.

On the morning of July 12, the witness picked up an unknown individual dressed in a black sweater with a white print, matching the description given by other witnesses. This person later received a call and instructed the witness to wait a block away while the murder took place.

Following the crime, the witness transported the shooter to Boulevard 2000. When questioning Jesús about the act, Jesús revealed Manuel had paid handsomely for the hit, claiming Gabriela had been unfaithful. Jesús then threatened the witness to keep silent.

Gabriela’s autopsy confirmed she died from multiple gunshot wounds to the head. Based on Article 129, sections 1 and 3 of the Baja California Penal Code, Manuel Isidro N. has been charged as the intellectual author and instigator of the femicide. He will remain in preventive detention for three months from August 30 to November 30, 2024.

Alejandra Ramírez Aguilar, Gabriela’s cousin, accepted the judge’s decision, although she found the details of the murder horrifying. She expressed the difficulty the family faces removing Manuel from their lives, especially for Gabriela’s children.
