**Economic Secretariat Allocates Funding for Fidem 2 in 2025**
The Economic and Innovation Secretariat has announced that it plans to allocate the same amount of funding in 2025 for the Business Trust of Baja California, commonly referred to as FIDEM 2, as it did in 2024. This announcement was made by Kurt Honold Morales, the Secretary of Economy, in response to a question from Daylín García Ruvalcaba, a member of the Citizens’ Movement party. She inquired whether there would be financial resources available for the economic trust in 2025.
Recently, Ana Alicia Meneses Martínez, the president of the Tijuana Development Council, mentioned that negotiations are ongoing for a new modification to the Fidem. This follows Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda’s announcement about allocating around 200 million pesos to educational infrastructure. As of November 27, 2024, during the Secretary of Economy’s appearance in Congress for the review of the Third Government Report, Michelle Guerrero, the Deputy Secretary of Economy, mentioned that the trust fund accounts held approximately 300 million pesos. “This ensures a continuation for projects that have already been initiated or are in progress for 2024, which will be completed in 2025. More projects are expected to begin in 2025,” Guerrero stated.
So far this year, around 170 million pesos have been utilized within Fidem 2 across various sectors, and there are still resources available for 2025 projects. Additionally, Morales indicated ongoing efforts to bring a Volaris aircraft maintenance center to Mexicali, competing with other locations such as Guadalajara. He highlighted the logistical costs of moving aircraft from Tijuana to Mexicali and suggested that absorbing these costs could attract infrastructure investments that would bolster the aerospace industry in Mexicali.
