**After the Murder of “El Cebollas,” FGE Criticizes the Judiciary for Releasing Him**

Following the murder of Jesús Sebastián Moreno Olivas, known as “El Cebollas,” questions are being raised by the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) regarding judicial decisions that allowed him to remain free despite facing charges. Moreno Olivas, 25, was killed in the early hours of January 3, 2025. FGE has criticized the common court’s decision to permit him to continue his legal process outside of custody, a decision made by a judge in mid-2023. The Attorney General, María Elena Andrade Ramírez, described this as a “lack of judgment.”

Andrade Ramírez stated, “We feel it’s a lack of judgment, and we have discussed this with the President of the Tribunal who has been assisting us to ensure justice is served in the common courts, and similarly, the FGR has taken steps concerning federal judges.”

According to security files, Moreno Olivas was linked to the Arellano Félix Cartel (CAF) and had a direct relationship with Pablo Edwin Huerta Nuño, known as “El Flaquito,” involved in territorial conflicts in 2023. The alleged criminal history of Moreno Olivas pointed towards his continued involvement in illegal activities, despite being previously investigated for illegally depriving someone of liberty.

Moreno Olivas was killed at a gathering on Alba Roja Avenue in the Hipódromo Dos neighborhood. The attack occurred when armed men opened fire, resulting in Moreno Olivas being shot 31 times. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities finding long-barreled weapon casings at the scene. Witnesses reported that the assailants arrived in a compact vehicle before launching their attack.

Given Moreno Olivas’s background, the FGE sees a potential line of investigation. The case has also been referred to the Federal Attorney General’s Office (FGR) to gather evidence and identify those present at the party. While the FGE investigates the murder, the FGR is examining the situation for links to organized crime.

In other developments, increased tensions among drug cartels in Mexico have led to a surge in violence, particularly in the northern regions. Different factions are battling for control over territories, with recent incidents involving high-profile figures within these criminal organizations.

The assassination of Moreno Olivas is just one of many violent acts in the area, prompting local and federal authorities to ramp up their investigations into organized crime networks. Despite various security measures, cartel clashes continue to pose significant challenges to maintaining law and order.

Authorities are working to dismantle these criminal groups by targeting key players and their operations. Efforts include increased patrols, intelligence operations, and community engagement to encourage cooperation from local residents. The goal is to curb the influence these groups have on the communities and restore peace to the region.
