**Investigation Officer from Federal SSPC Murdered in Culiacán; Justice Promised**

An investigation officer from the Federal Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) was tragically killed in Culiacán, Sinaloa. The incident occurred on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, around 1:00 PM local time in the western part of the city. The officer has been identified as Halexy Guadalupe V.

Omar Hamid García Harfuch, the head of the Federal SSPC, expressed condolences and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice. “Today in Culiacán, we sadly lost a colleague from the investigation team. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family, and we extend our appreciation for the daily work of the women and men of the Security Cabinet in restoring peace,” Harfuch shared on a social media platform.

Witnesses reported that the attack was orchestrated by two men on a motorcycle, who approached the officer while he was in a white vehicle and shot him point-blank. Following the incident, one of the attackers reportedly took refuge in the University of Durango’s Culiacán campus.

During the same day, Harfuch led a security meeting with Rubén Rocha Moya, the governor of Sinaloa since November 1, 2021, and a member of the Morena party.

**Growing Concerns Over Security in Mexico**

Recent events in Mexico highlight ongoing security challenges. Earlier in December 2024, a mining-style explosive device targeted and killed four military personnel in Michoacán, raising alarms about the evolving tactics of criminal organizations. The incident underscores the increasing threat posed by organized crime groups.

In related news, Eulalia Morfin Salcido, known as “Doña Lupe,” was recently linked to the Sinaloa Cartel and pleaded guilty to charges in the United States. The case draws attention to the international reach of Mexican criminal networks and their impact on security both domestically and abroad.

Efforts to improve safety in the country continue through various initiatives. The government has announced the implementation of the “Watching Our School” operation post-school recess, aiming to enhance security in educational institutions.

With these multifaceted threats, the Mexican government remains committed to combating organized crime and restoring peace, as emphasized by commitment from officials like García Harfuch.
