Authorities Seize Nearly 8 Million Liters of Hydrocarbons in Ensenada

In a major operation under the National Security Strategy, authorities seized nearly 8 million liters of hydrocarbons on March 26, 2025, in El Sauzal, Ensenada. This extensive search and seizure resulted from diligent intelligence and investigative efforts focused on combating fuel theft.

The operation involved the collaboration of several national agencies, including the Army, the National Guard, the Secretary of the Navy, the Attorney General’s Office, and the Department of Security and Citizen Protection. Officials were tipped off by local residents about the illegal storage and handling of fuel and acted on this information with a judge-approved search warrant.

During the operation, security forces discovered a variety of equipment used for the illegal activity, including 100 containers each with a capacity of 72,800 liters, 46 tanker trailers holding 31,000 liters each, 19 different model tractor-trailers, 12 motor pumps of various capacities, 2 office-style trailers, and a single cistern containing 4,000 liters of urea. In total, the seized hydrocarbons amounted to about 7,944,000 liters.

The site is now secured and under the supervision of authorities who continue to investigate.

Secondary Article: Investigation Unveils Clandestine PEMEX Oil Tap in Ensenada

As investigations into illegal fuel activities continue in Ensenada, recent efforts have uncovered a clandestine oil tap connected to a parcel leased by a former senator. This discovery forms part of the broader crackdown on fuel theft that has plagued Mexico’s public and private sectors for years.

Law enforcement, along with security teams from PEMEX, are already pursuing leads that suggest a network of illicit activities revolving around the unlawful extraction of petroleum. Strategies are being implemented to tackle this issue effectively, with further operations expected to dismantle related networks and hold those responsible accountable.

Both these operations demonstrate ongoing efforts by security personnel to curb illicit fuel activities in the region, which have posed significant risks to public safety and the economic stability of Mexico.
