Get Ready for the “El Bebé” Fishing Tournament in Rosarito This March 30th

Rosarito’s very own “Playa El Bebé” is set to host the much-anticipated first round of Baja California’s state fishing competition on Sunday, March 30th. This yearly event continues to draw fishing enthusiasts, with last year’s edition attracting about 150 participants from across the region and Southern California.

The competition forms part of the official event calendar curated by SEPESCA BC, proudly supported by the administration of Baja California’s Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda. It is organized by the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association, with this year’s tournament hosted by the TJ Fishing Club, headed by Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno.

This tournament marks the first of three qualifying beach fishing events that will determine who advances to the State Championship. Participants are welcome to register starting at 5:00 AM, with the official fishing activities commencing at 7:00 AM and the final weigh-in occurring at 1:00 PM. Those who queue by the closing time will still be eligible to compete.

Once the fishing concludes, awards will be presented in several categories, including children’s, women’s, and various fish species such as mojarra. The event will also feature raffles and the opportunity to enjoy local fish dishes.

Enthusiasts keen on joining the competition can find information on registration costs, rules, and prizes by contacting 664 493 6014 or 664 339 9173 or by emailing tjfishingclub@gmail.com. More details are accessible on the club’s website.

The event’s financial backing from Victor Hugo Méndez, the head of Sport Fishing at SEPESCA BC, highlights the local government’s commitment to promoting community activities and covering related expenses.

For those interested in participating but unable to sign up in advance, registration is available on the day at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria.

Looking further down the line, the next rounds of the competition will be at Sunset Beach in Ensenada on April 27th, overseen by Club Pura Vida, and at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín on July 20th, organized by Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. Participants excelling in these events will qualify to represent Baja California at the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship scheduled for September 19-20 in Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco.
