Rosarito’s “Playa El Bebé” is set to host the kickoff event of Baja California’s state fishing competition on Sunday, March 30th. The tournament is expected to attract numerous fishing enthusiasts from across the region and Southern California, after having drawn close to 150 participants last year.

The event is part of the official schedule backed by Baja California’s government and organized by the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association. TJ Fishing Club, led by Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno, will manage the event this year.

This marks the first of three selective beach fishing tournaments that aim to qualify anglers for the State Championship. Registration opens at 5:00 AM, and the competitive fishing will commence at 7:00 AM, wrapping up with a weigh-in by 1:00 PM. Categories include children’s participation, women’s division, mojarra, and other specific fish classes. Attendees can also enjoy local fish delicacies and participate in raffles.

Interested participants can gather more details on registration, costs, and competition rules by calling 664 493 6014 or 664 339 9173 or by emailing tjfishingclub@gmail.com. Additional resources are available on the TJ Fishing Club’s website.

To support the organization of the event, Victor Hugo Méndez, the head of Sport Fishing at SEPESCA BC, has provided financial aid to cover event-related expenses.

Event registration is available on the day or through pre-registration at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or the Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria.

Looking ahead, the continuation of the state competition will take place on April 27th at Sunset Beach in Ensenada, organized by Club Pura Vida, and on July 20th at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín by Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. Top anglers will compete for a spot in the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship scheduled for September 19-20 in Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco.
