Get Ready for the “El Bebé” Fishing Tournament in Rosarito This March 30th

This coming Sunday, March 30th, the shores of Rosarito’s “Playa El Bebé” will buzz with excitement as it hosts the first round of Baja California’s state fishing competition. The event is expected to draw fishing enthusiasts from across the state and Southern California, surpassing last year’s turnout of nearly 150 anglers.

The tournament is a highlight on the official calendar of SEPESCA BC and receives support from the administration under Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda. Organized by the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association, this competition launches the first of three selective beach fishing tournaments that qualify participants for the State Championship. This year’s tournament is hosted by TJ Fishing Club and represented by Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno.

Participants can begin registering as early as 5:00 AM, with the official start of fishing at 7:00 AM. The weigh-in, an essential part of the tournament, will close at 1:00 PM. Anglers queuing by this time may still have their catches counted in the competition.

At the conclusion of the event, prizes will be distributed across various categories including children’s, women’s, and specific fish species like mojarra. To add to the festivity, there will be raffles and a variety of dishes featuring local fish.

Those interested in participating can find information about registration, fees, rules, and prizes by contacting the event organizers at 664-493-6014 or 664-339-9173, or by emailing tjfishingclub@gmail.com. Further details are also available on the TJ Fishing Club’s website.

Victor Hugo Méndez, the head of Sport Fishing at SEPESCA BC, has provided financial backing to support the event’s expenses, ensuring a successful tournament.

For those ready to cast their lines, registration is available on the day of the event or in advance at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada and Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria.

Future rounds of the state competition are scheduled for April 27th at Ensenada’s Sunset Beach with Club Pura Vida hosting, and July 20th at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín, organized by Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. The top performers from these events will earn their spot to represent Baja California in the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship, set for September 19-20 in Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco.
