Rosarito’s “Playa El Bebé” is set to host the inaugural event of the Baja California state fishing competition on Sunday, March 30th. Anticipation is high among organizers, as last year’s edition saw participation from nearly 150 anglers hailing from across the state and Southern California.

The tournament is a key part of the official schedule by SEPESCA BC, with backing from Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda. The event is organized under the guidance of the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association and this year, hosted by the TJ Fishing Club, with Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno at the helm.

This competition marks the first of three selective beach fishing events that will determine who advances to the State Championship. Participants can register from 5:00 AM on the day of the event, with lines officially cast at 7:00 AM. The weigh-in will close at 1:00 PM, accommodating those in line by then.

Prizes will be awarded across various categories including children’s, women’s, mojarra, and other fish species. Additionally, attendees can look forward to raffles and locally inspired seafood meals. Interested participants can register on the event day or pre-register at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria. Future tournament dates include the second round on April 27th at Sunset Beach in Ensenada, hosted by Club Pura Vida, and the third round on July 20th at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín, organized by Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. The top anglers will earn the opportunity to represent Baja California at the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship in Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco, on September 19-20.
