El Bebe Fishing Kickoff

Prepare for an exciting day as Rosarito hosts the “El Bebé” Fishing Tournament on March 30th at Playa El Bebé. This event marks the kick-off of Baja California’s state fishing competition, attracting avid anglers from both the state and Southern California. Last year saw participation from nearly 150 fishermen, and expectations are high for a similar turnout.

The tournament is an official event, backed by Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda’s administration and organized by the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association. Hosted this year by the TJ Fishing Club, Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno will oversee the event that acts as the first in a series of three qualifying beach fishing tournaments that culminate in the State Championship.

Registration for the tournament begins at 5:00 AM, with fishing officially commencing at 7:00 AM and a closing weigh-in at 1:00 PM for all participants in line by that time. Participants can look forward to various prize categories, including children’s, women’s, mojarra, and other species. Additionally, there will be raffles and local seafood available for tasting.

Victor Hugo Méndez, head of Sport Fishing at SEPESCA BC, has extended financial support to facilitate the event. Participants can register on the day of the tournament or pre-register at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria.

Following this first round, the competition continues with the second round on April 27th at Sunset Beach, Ensenada, hosted by Club Pura Vida, and concludes with the third round on July 20th at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín, organized by Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín.

Top competitors in these events will get the opportunity to represent Baja California in the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship on September 19-20 at Playa Manzanilla in Jalisco.
