Rosarito’s “Playa El Bebé” is set to host the inaugural round of Baja California’s state fishing competition on Sunday, March 30th. The event is poised to attract numerous anglers from across Baja California and Southern California, following last year’s successful turnout of nearly 150 participants.

This tournament is a part of the official calendar by SEPESCA BC and is supported by the administration of Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda. Organized by the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association and hosted by TJ Fishing Club, representatives include Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno.

Participants in this first of three selective beach fishing tournaments will vie for spots in the State Championship. The day begins at 5:00 AM with registration, while fishing officially starts at 7:00 AM. The weigh-in deadline is 1:00 PM, but those in line will still be able to compete. Prizes will be awarded in various categories, including children’s, women’s, and several fish species. An assortment of activities such as raffles and a sampling of local fish dishes will also be available.

To participate, interested parties may find registration details, costs, rules, and prizes by calling 664-493-6014 or 664-339-9173, or by emailing tjfishingclub@gmail.com. Further information is available on the TJ Fishing Club’s website.

Victor Hugo Méndez, the head of Sport Fishing at SEPESCA BC, has provided financial support to aid with the event expenses. Participants have the option to register on the event day or pre-register at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria.

The following rounds in the state competition are scheduled for April 27th at Sunset Beach in Ensenada and on July 20th at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín. These events will determine Baja California’s representatives for the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship in Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco, on September 19-20.
