Prepare for the Exciting “El Bebé” Fishing Tournament in Rosarito This March 30th
Rosarito’s beautiful Playa El Bebé is set to host the first leg of Baja California’s state fishing competition on Sunday, March 30th. With expectations for a high turnout, last year saw nearly 150 anglers from across the state and Southern California participate.
The tournament is part of the official schedule of the Baja California Secretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture, backed by the administration of Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda. It is jointly organized by the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association and the TJ Fishing Club, represented by Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno.
This event marks the initial round in a series of three selective beach fishing tournaments, which will determine qualifiers for the State Championship. Activities start early, with registration for anglers beginning at 5:00 AM. Fishing officially starts at 7:00 AM, and the weigh-in procedures will close at 1:00 PM, ensuring that all those in line by that time are eligible to compete.
Prizes will be awarded in various categories, including children’s, women’s, mojarra, and other species categories. There will also be raffles and locally-prepared fish dishes available.

In support of this engaging event, Victor Hugo Méndez, head of Sport Fishing at SEPESCA BC, has provided financial assistance to the organizers to cover essential event expenses.
Competitors may register on the day of the tournament or pre-register at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or the Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria.
Looking forward, the next rounds of the state competition are scheduled for April 27th at Sunset Beach in Ensenada, hosted by Club Pura Vida, and July 20th at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín, organized by Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. Top performers from these events will have the opportunity to represent Baja California at the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship in Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco, on September 19-20.
