This event marks the first round of Baja California’s state fishing competition and promises a thrilling day for all angling enthusiasts. Last year, the tournament attracted nearly 150 participants from across the state and Southern California.

The tournament is part of the official calendar of SEPESCA BC, backed by the administration of Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda. The Baja California Fishing Clubs Association is organizing the event, with the local TJ Fishing Club under the leadership of Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno spearheading the efforts this year.

This tournament is the first of three selective beach fishing competitions that will determine qualifiers for the State Championship. The day starts early, with registrations opening at 5:00 AM. The fishing begins at 7:00 AM, and the weigh-in closes at 1:00 PM. All anglers in line by the cut-off time will be able to participate.

Exciting prizes await the winners in several categories: children’s, women’s, mojarra, among others. Attendees can also enjoy raffles and delicious local fish dishes. Interested participants can find information on registration, costs, rules, and prizes by calling 664 493 6014 or 664 339 9173 or emailing tjfishingclub@gmail.com. More information is available on the tournament’s website.

To support this exciting event, Victor Hugo Méndez, head of Sport Fishing at SEPESCA BC, provided financial backing to help cover the expenses.

If you’re eager to compete, signing up can be done on the day of the event or in advance at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria.

Looking ahead, the second and third rounds of the state competition are scheduled for April 27th at Sunset Beach in Ensenada with Club Pura Vida, and July 20th at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín hosted by Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. The top anglers will earn a spot in the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship, set for September 19-20 at Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco.
