Get Ready for the “El Bebé” Fishing Tournament in Rosarito This March 30th
Rosarito’s picturesque Playa El Bebé is set to host the first leg of Baja California’s state fishing competition on Sunday, March 30th. The event promises to draw a large crowd of enthusiastic anglers from both the state and Southern California, with last year’s turnout reaching nearly 150 participants.
The competition forms part of Baja California Fishing Clubs Association’s official calendar, supported by the local government. This year, the tournament is organized by the TJ Fishing Club, with lead representatives Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno welcoming participants.
This event is the first of three selective beach fishing tournaments that filter participants for the State Championship. Registration begins bright and early at 5:00 AM, followed by the official start at 7:00 AM. The weigh-in closes at 1:00 PM, ensuring fairness for all contestants who are in line by the cutoff.
Participants will compete for prizes in several categories, including children’s and women’s divisions, as well as for specific species like mojarra. Besides prizes, the day features raffles and an opportunity to sample delicious local fish dishes.

Future rounds of the state competition include the upcoming April 27th event at Sunset Beach in Ensenada, hosted by Club Pura Vida, and the July 20th competition at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín, organized by Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. Top performers across these events will have the chance to represent Baja California at the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship this September in Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco.
