Get Ready for the “El Bebé” Fishing Tournament in Rosarito on March 30th
Attention all fishing enthusiasts! This March 30th, “Playa El Bebé” in Rosarito will be the venue for the first round of Baja California’s state fishing competition. This highly anticipated event is expected to attract a large number of participants, following last year’s successful turnout of over 150 anglers from all over the state and Southern California.
Organized by the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association and supported by the administration of Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, the tournament is being hosted by the TJ Fishing Club with Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno at the helm. This is the first in a series of three beach fishing tournaments that will determine who qualifies for the State Championship.
The day begins at 5:00 AM with registration, followed by the official start of fishing at 7:00 AM. The competition will conclude with a weigh-in at 1:00 PM, but don’t worry if you’re in line at that time, as you’ll still have the opportunity to compete. Prizes will be awarded in various categories including children’s, women’s, and specific fish species like mojarra. Additionally, there will be raffles and plenty of delicious local fish dishes to enjoy.
For those interested in casting their lines, details on registration, fees, rules, and prizes can be obtained by calling 664 493 6014 or 664 339 9173, or emailing tjfishingclub@gmail.com. More information is available on their website.
Thanks to the efforts of Victor Hugo Méndez, head of Sport Fishing at SEPESCA BC, financial support has been provided to assist with event expenses. Participants can register on the day of the tournament or opt for pre-registration at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or the Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria.
Looking forward, the subsequent rounds of the state competition are scheduled for April 27th at Sunset Beach in Ensenada, hosted by Club Pura Vida, and July 20th at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín, organized by Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. Standout anglers from these events will earn the opportunity to represent Baja California in the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship in Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco, from September 19-20.
