CNTE Denies Governor’s Statement, Confirms No Return to Classes on Monday
Tijuana – Despite an announcement on Friday by the governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, regarding the payment of back wages and the resumption of classes starting August 26, educators have denied that this will happen.
Marco Antonio Pacheco Peña, the state coordinator of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) in Baja California, stated that the return to classrooms will not occur until teachers receive their payments.
“There is no agreement; what she [the governor] says is her prerogative, but there was no consensus with Sections 2, 37, or the CNTE. While she can say that classes will resume on Monday, ultimately, the teachers will inform the schools that there will be no classes,” Pacheco expressed.
Pacheco also highlighted that the governor did not address the payment for interim teachers, an issue with a considerable outstanding amount and no progress.
“With a heavy heart, we must continue the struggle to ensure payments for interim and state teachers. We cannot abandon the fight because promises after promises will not yield results for our colleagues,” Pacheco added.
Despite these statements, Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda released a video emphasizing that the teachers’ well-being is a priority in her administration. She assured that the back pay, along with the associated benefits, has a scheduled payment date.
“The well-being of our teachers is paramount because high-quality education starts with educators who feel valued and well-compensated,” said Ávila Olmeda.

**Baja California Teachers’ Payment Dispute Intensifies**
In a continuation of the ongoing conflict, Baja California teachers have reiterated their decision to not return to classes unless their wage demands are met. The situation has caused significant confusion among parents and students who were preparing for the new academic year.
The CNTE has urged parents to remain patient and understand that the teachers’ demands aim at a fair settlement that affects the quality of education and educators’ livelihoods. They reaffirmed their commitment to dialogue but emphasized that concrete actions, such as wage payments, must precede any return to classrooms.
Meanwhile, the governor’s office has maintained that the funds have been allocated and the delay is merely logistical. Efforts continue to resolve the issue swiftly to prevent further disruptions in the educational calendar.
