Athletes from Baja California delivered an impressive performance at the III FISU America Games in Cali, Colombia, bringing home a total of eight medals. The team, guided by coach Zinnia Garayzar Véliz, represented Mexico with pride as part of the larger delegation comprising 153 athletes from 32 higher education institutions. These athletes are affiliated with the National Council for Sports and Education (CONDDE). Mexico concluded the event in third place in the overall medal standings, a feat highlighted by Pablo Vargas, who excelled in the 4×400 meters relay and the 400 meters sprint, and Natalia López, who shone in the Discus Throw.
An outstanding performance was also seen from Miriam Lizbeth Loza Camarillo, a student at the Faculty of Medicine and Psychology at the Autonomous University of Baja California’s Tijuana Campus. She emerged as the Pan American champion in the 800 meters event. Additionally, several athletes from Baja California played crucial roles in the basketball team, which secured a silver medal under the management of coach César Valencia.
The Pan American University Games hosted 17 countries, with Brazil taking the lead in the medal rankings with a total of 106 medals, 60 of which were gold. Colombia followed with 110 medals: 39 gold, 40 silver, and 31 bronze. Meanwhile, Mexico achieved an impressive haul of 32 gold, 37 silver, and 31 bronze medals.

**Luis Carlos Rivera Appointed as New Manager for Águilas de Mexicali**
The Águilas de Mexicali baseball team has announced a managerial change, appointing Luis Carlos Rivera as the new manager for the remainder of the 2024-2025 Mexican Pacific League (LMP) season. Rivera takes over from Roberto “Chapo” Vizcarra, who has been relieved of his duties. Rivera began this season with the Venados de Mazatlán but was let go three weeks ago.
