Embarking on a creative voyage that serves as a prelude to adulthood, Luis Humberto Navejas, the talented vocalist of the band Enjambre, makes his debut in the world of cinema with his fantasy and science fiction film, “Astrósfera.” Taking on multiple roles as writer and director, Navejas presents a personal project that holds special meaning for him. The film is set to premiere on Monday, October 21, at 6:00 PM at the Cineteca Carlos Monsiváis within the Tijuana Cultural Center (CECUT).

“I wanted the movie to feel as if it belonged to the 80s and 90s,” Navejas shared about his cinematic quest, explaining how he waited to gather the right budget and team. Alongside family members and friends, with just a small camera and a script in hand, he managed to create his film, adapting the production to fit around the schedules of his collaborators and himself.

Stemming from a sense of disillusionment, “Astrósfera” poses the intriguing question, “What would I do if I could go back twenty years?” It revisits a time when Navejas was studying cinema, aspiring to become a filmmaker. Reflecting on those dreams of directing, writing, and acting in films, he revisits this passion project even as he maintains his commitment to music with Enjambre. The band is set to perform on October 19 at the sixth edition of the Tecate Península music festival in Tijuana.

The production, shot within a week in 2022, was followed by post-production spreading across 2023 and into 2024. Despite the need to balance the demands of filming with Enjambre’s tour schedule, Navejas embraced the challenge, organizing his time around the band’s activities and consistently engaging in creative writing during breaks.

Describing “Astrósfera” as a visual poem, he emphasized the project’s focus on feeling rather than following a traditional narrative path. “It’s like catching the essence of the sunset, symbolizing the last breath of sunlight before the young characters step into the embrace of night, heralding the arrival of a new day.”

The project has also been a testament to the support and talent of Navejas’ circle over the years. Collaborating with those beyond his band was a defining moment, as everyone involved shared a unified passion to bring this dream to life. The premiere in Tijuana marks a celebration of not only the film but of the connections Navejas has cultivated—offering a rewarding dialogue with audiences and peers alike.
