## International Film Festival Celebrates a New Edition in Morelia
The 22nd International Film Festival will be opening its doors from October 18 to 27 in Morelia, famed for its monarch butterfly biosphere. The event will feature the premiere of “Emilia Pérez,” a film by Jacques Audiard. Esteemed director Audiard will be present, along with Spanish actress Karla Sofía Gascón and Mexican actress Adriana Paz, both award-winning artists from the Cannes Film Festival.
This year’s festival boasts an impressive lineup of films, showcasing 52 short films, 14 documentaries, 18 works from the Michoacan region, and nine feature-length fiction films from Mexican filmmakers. Renowned actor Liv Tyler, as well as Mexican stars Luis Gerardo Méndez and Alfonso Herrera, will make appearances alongside legendary director Francis Ford Coppola, who will be honored with the UNAM Film Library Medal for Artistic Excellence. The festival will also recognize Mexican screenwriter Paz Alicia Garciadiego as an honorary member of the Society of Audiovisual and Cinematic Writers of Mexico.
Attendees can expect special screenings such as “Pedro Páramo” by Rodrigo Prieto and the much-anticipated Apple TV+ limited series “Disclaimer” by five-time Oscar winner Alfonso Cuarón, starring Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline. The celebration will be enriched by the national premieres of films like “Bem y yo,” “Gizmo,” “Mesa de regalos,” and others. The festival also includes the Indigenous Peoples’ Forum and the second Laboratory for Cinematic Project Development for Indigenous and Afro-descendant Filmmakers from Latin America, featuring 20 directors from various countries.
Additional programs include Impulso Morelia 10, Queer Palm Lab, and La Semana de la Crítica, along with international premieres such as “A Different Man” and “The Apprentice.” More standout films include Almodóvar’s “La habitación de al lado,” winner of the Venice Film Festival’s Golden Lion, and Sean Baker’s “Anora,” which claimed the Palme d’Or at Cannes.
