Ángel de Jesús Camacho Ramírez, a 19-year-old parar-swimmer from León, Guanajuato, has once again proven his remarkable talent by securing his third medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Camacho captured a silver medal in the 50-meter backstroke S4 event, clocking in at 42.70 seconds, which contributed to Mexico’s total tally of 16 medals.

His achievement in Paris includes two earlier bronze medals, making the silver his most cherished one yet. “Three medals, a fourth place, and a fifth place—I am thrilled to have finished in the top five in all my events. Becoming the Mexican Paralympic athlete with the most medals here in Paris with three total is an incredible honor. Now, it’s time to enjoy and celebrate,” said Camacho, who competed in five events and reached the finals in all of them.

Reflecting on his journey, Camacho emphasized the importance of dedication and hard work. “Seeing all the effort pay off is amazing. My coach once told me that if I aim to make history in Paris, I need to work harder than anyone else. Training eight hours a day from Monday to Saturday for three years was strenuous, but these results make it all worthwhile,” he added.

In the broader context of the games, parar-swimming has been a substantial contributor to Mexico’s medal count, with a total of seven medals in this discipline: one gold, three each of silver and bronze. As the competition draws to a close, Mexico’s overall medal haul stands at 16: three gold, six silver, and seven bronze.
