### “We Won’t Lose Our Minds Over What Happened in Leagues Cup”: Kevin Castañeda
The elimination of the Xolos in the group stage of the 2024 Leagues Cup has not changed the restructuring project led by head coach Juan Carlos Osorio.
Tijuana – Kevin Castañeda made it clear that their early exit from the Leagues Cup has not affected any details of the sporting project under the direction of Juan Carlos Osorio.
“This is all part of a process. There can be defeats, victories, or draws, but it’s part of the journey. We won’t lose our minds over what happened in the Leagues Cup,” Castañeda said.
The player emphasized that there is no pressure within the Xolos team to overturn the poor results they have endured in recent years.
“Pressure? I don’t feel pressure when playing football. I do what I love, and for me, that’s not pressure. I don’t see it that way,” he clarified. “When things don’t work out or you’re not doing well, you have to work harder, double your efforts,” he added.
The Xolos will return to Liga MX action this weekend, hosting Santos Laguna at the Estadio Caliente.
“No rival is easy in this league. It’s true they didn’t start in the best way, but for me, they’re not an easy opponent,” Castañeda noted.
Having previously played under Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Ambriz at Toluca, Castañeda is familiar with the Mexican coach’s style and anticipates an intense battle for ball possession.
“I know the other coach. He has a similar philosophy to our coach, focusing on maintaining possession. It’s going to be a very tough match to determine who dominates with the ball,” he mentioned.
Frequent rotations in the lineup have been a hallmark of Juan Carlos Osorio’s management style. Kevin Castañeda confirmed that the Xolos are undergoing a rebuilding phase under the Colombian strategist.
“You never know when it’s your turn. You never know when you’ll start. When you least expect it, you’re chosen. You always have to train at 100 percent so that when it’s your time, you can perform in the best way possible,” Castañeda concluded.
