## Xóchitl Appeals to Prevent Overrepresentation of Morena and Allies in Congress
Former presidential candidate Xóchitl Gálvez Ruiz, representing the coalition “Fuerza y Corazón por México” composed of PRI, PAN, and PRD, made a public appeal on August 5, 2024, urging citizens to file a citizen lawsuit to prevent what she described as an “agandalle” (unfair advantage) by Morena and its allies—the Green Party (PVEM) and the Labor Party (PT). Gálvez alleges these parties are attempting to secure an excessive number of seats in the Mexican Congress.
In a video shared on her social media platforms, Senator Gálvez explained that despite Morena, PT, and PVEM winning 54% of the vote in the June 2, 2024 election, they aim to occupy 75% of the seats in Congress, enabling them to change the Constitution as they see fit.
“Morena and their allies want to steal nearly 10 million votes in Congress. They won 54% of the votes but want to grab hold of 75% of the legislative spaces. This means that a vote they receive would be worth more than a vote from the opposition. If this overrepresentation is approved, they could change the Constitution at will. We can’t allow this,” stated the Hidalgo politician.
Gálvez called on the public to submit a citizen lawsuit to the Electoral Tribunal if the alleged injustice is confirmed in the next 48 hours. “If you agree, stay tuned to my social media for more details. Let’s assert that the agreement among parties should not outweigh a citizen’s vote,” she further commented.
She concluded by inviting citizens to present the lawsuit together: “They want to steal nearly 10 million votes in the allocation of deputies. That’s why I invite you to present a citizen lawsuit with me if this situation is confirmed. We will fight back.”
