In an unusual case of extortion reported to the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), an individual claimed they were threatened with witchcraft-related videos and images. This incident took place in the community of Benito Juárez, located in the Mexicali Valley.

According to the complaint filed on December 29, the victim started receiving messages from two phone numbers, 525622221714 and 523221905436. The messages contained images of skulls and “voodoo” inscriptions. A male voice in the messages allegedly threatened to turn the victim’s family over to Lucifer if they did not comply. The victim believes this is an act of extortion as a result of not agreeing to carry out a bank transfer of 9,000 pesos.

The complaint highlights the victim’s skepticism about the authenticity of witchcraft, which they feel might have prompted this bizarre form of coercion. Authorities have included the case in an ongoing investigation and are working to identify those responsible.

### Similar Cases of Coercion and Fraud

A broader trend in Mexico has been emerging where supernatural claims are used as a tool for extortion and fraud. Increasingly, individuals report receiving threats from supposed practitioners of witchcraft or black magic, demanding money in exchange for halting spells or curses. This pattern has been noted by law enforcement agencies in various states, indicating a possible organized effort behind these threats.

In other similar incidents, victims have received demands for significant sums of money paired with threats of harm upon non-compliance. While some might dismiss these claims as superstitions, the impact on the victims, who may hold strong beliefs in such practices, can be severe. Authorities continue to investigate and warn the public to be cautious of unsolicited messages that make any form of supernatural threats.
