Unity in Judicial Elections

“Franco Ruíz of Fedabo stresses unity between opposition and government for judicial selections. INE readies for transparent judge, magistrate, and minister elections to enhance legal system impartiality.”

### Opposition and Government Factions Urged to Collaborate in Judicial Elections

In a significant call for unity, Hassan Franco Ruíz, the president of the Federation of Lawyers of Baja California (Fedabo), emphasized the importance of cooperation between opposition and government representatives in the selection of judges and magistrates for the Federal Judicial Branch (PJF) and state courts. According to Franco Ruíz, ensuring high-quality judiciary appointments in line with promised reforms is now a priority, urging all parties to set aside past disagreements and focus on the future.

The Evaluation Committee, proposed by the Legislative Power, will play a key role in organizing the call for applications and evaluating candidates aspiring to positions such as judges, magistrates, and ministers. Franco Ruíz noted that most committee members are closely aligned with the decisions of Mexico’s Congress, highlighting the influence centralized in Mexico City. The Fedabo, alongside the College of Fiscalists of Baja California, plans to propose candidate names for these selection committees.

Franco Ruíz also expressed satisfaction with the recent conclusion of a PJF labor strike, which had disrupted certain legal services since October 28th. This strike resolution reassures citizens’ rights to file complaints and sees the judicial sector gradually returning to normalcy, with amparo petitions now being processed within eight business days—a notable improvement, though still slower than the previous three-day average.

In tandem with these discussions, the National Electoral Institute (INE) is gearing up for upcoming elections that will select new judges, magistrates, and ministers. Although a definitive budget has not yet been allocated, preparations are underway to ensure a transparent and efficient electoral process. This initiative aligns with broader judicial reform efforts aimed at enhancing the impartiality and effectiveness of Mexico’s legal system. The process draws significant attention, as it underscores the critical need for reform and the balanced representation of diverse perspectives within the judiciary.
