Uniformed But No Classes

Parents and students faced a surprising day as schools like the 16th of September School in Hidalgo neighborhood had no classes, causing confusion and frustration for all involved.

### Students Arrive in Uniform, But No Classes for the Day

Blanca Estela Morgan rushed her two daughters to school at 8:15 AM, urging them to hurry as they were allegedly late for their first day of classes. However, upon arriving at the school gate, they were met with a sign indicating that there were no classes this Monday. “We got the date wrong. Everywhere it was said that today was the return to school, and we felt a bit pressured,” the mother explained.

Both of Morgan’s daughters attend the 16th of September School in the Hidalgo neighborhood, which had posted a notice that Monday and Tuesday would be dedicated to the enrollment process. “They were ready for class, excited, and I told them to show their excitement through good grades,” added the mother, who had invested 3,000 pesos in uniforms.

A local survey revealed that various schools, including Sindicato Alba Roja and Francisco I. Madero, also did not resume classes this Monday.

The return to classes this Monday in Tijuana saw disruptions due to ongoing teacher protests. Members of teachers’ unions such as SETEBC and CNTE have declared they will not conduct classes until their pending salaries are paid. This has left parents and students confused and frustrated, especially with differing announcements regarding the start of the school year.

Meanwhile, the State Government has assured that classes would resume this Monday, following agreements with Sections 2 and 37 of the SNTE and the Governor of Baja California. However, the ground reality depicted a different story with many schools remaining closed due to unresolved issues.
