Trust Tests Fail Ensenada Cops

Ensenada police officers arrested after trust tests; prosecutor vows to uphold integrity. Baja California authorities pledge to eradicate corruption, emphasizing community support in law enforcement efforts.

### Ensenada Police Officers Arrested Despite Passing Trust Tests

Six police officers from Ensenada, involved in an ambush incident in February, had passed trust and control tests at the time of their arrest, confirmed the prosecutor María Elena Andrade Ramírez. She emphasized that the passing of these tests did not prevent the investigation against Brayan Isaac N., Carlos Javier N., Raúl Miguel N., and Esteban N., who were detained on August 29, 2024, under arrest warrants.

“These are the most recent interventions we’ve shared with you. We successfully obtained six arrest warrants in Ensenada. While most officers are exemplary, we will not allow such actions to tarnish the force,” stated Andrade Ramírez.

The suspects are allegedly involved in an incident on February 8, 2024, at “La Principal” hardware store parking lot in the Francisco Zarco delegation. The investigative report states that at least two individuals arrived in a grey Honda CRV and fired multiple gunshots at the victim, who was in a white GMC pickup truck, resulting in his death.

“The majority of the officers have current trust tests. Unfortunately, involvement with organized crime does not exempt them from investigation,” explained the prosecutor.

The investigation revealed that the attackers fled in the same vehicle, with assistance from Municipal Police officers, including the ones arrested, who facilitated the escape during and after the incident using official vehicles.

Andrade Ramírez highlighted that while trust tests are crucial, they are implemented to avoid scenarios like the one in Ensenada, primarily focusing on areas such as Mexicali and after notable incidents in San Felipe and San Luis Río Colorado.
