### Juan Pablo Cervantes Secures Third Gold Medal for Mexico

Wheelchair sprinter Juan Pablo Cervantes García has won his third gold medal for Mexico by breaking the American record with a time of 13.74 seconds in the 100 meters final, category T54, on the sixth day of the Para Athletics events at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.

The 32-year-old athlete from Mexico has been on a winning streak this season. He also secured a gold medal at the 2023 Santiago Parapan American Games, setting an American record, and earned a bronze at the 2024 Kobe World Championship in Japan.

“I am in shock, happy, a lot of things are going through my head right now, many emotions. But the hard part is over; I think when I reach the village, I will collapse because my body is worn out. It feels like it reached its limit, and now I’m feeling the exhaustion,” Juan Pablo commented.

With this gold medal, Cervantes has surpassed the bronze he won at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, solidifying his status as a Paralympic champion and an international figure.

“I dedicate this gold to my family, friends, coaches, and everyone who has supported me, including physiotherapists and psychologists. But I think I owe this medal to myself now because I’ve been through a lot emotionally,” he explained.

This victory marks Mexico’s 11th medal in the current games, with a tally of three golds (two on this day), three silvers, and five bronzes.
