### Public Transportation Service Reduction in Tijuana on October 31st
On October 31st, Tijuana residents may experience a reduction in public transportation services, especially for buses heading from the city center to the eastern parts of Tijuana. This decision, influenced by the diminished service request from the Sustainable Mobility Institute (IMOS), stems from past incidents of vandalism and aggression towards public transportation units during Halloween festivities.
Jorge Alberto Gutiérrez Topete, head of IMOS, clarified that the reduction in service is mostly about operating fewer units rather than a complete service cut. Although similar policies are in effect in Mexicali, where buses stop running after 7 PM due to historical issues of vandalism, Tijuana has not adopted an identical approach. Instead, the metropolitan delegation is gathering information from various groups and operators to evaluate service levels and ensure essential routes maintain operations until 9 PM, especially buses covering the city center to the eastern areas.
Meanwhile, black taxis along the Boulevard Agua Caliente will operate 24/7 as usual, alongside Tijuana’s metro services to Playas de Rosarito, ensuring that residents still have access to transportation during the holiday night.
### Increased Focus on Public Safety During Halloween
In addition to Tijuana’s transportation adjustments, there have been discussions in the region about ensuring public safety during Halloween celebrations. The potential for vandalism and disturbances often results in increased vigilance and specific measures across various sectors, including transportation and law enforcement.
This precautionary stance is not unique to Tijuana, as other cities across Mexico have also implemented similar strategies to mitigate risks during popular festivities. Public transportation remains a critical aspect, and authorities are working on finding the balance between maintaining service for those participating in the festivities and ensuring the safety of people and property.
Residents and visitors in Tijuana are advised to plan their commutes strategically on Halloween, considering potential delays or reduced services. Staying informed through local updates and news channels can also help individuals adapt to changing service levels efficiently.
For those interested in cultural events, Tijuana will host various activities such as the “Terrorific Relay Race” and a film series showcasing classic horror movies in Tecate, providing different avenues for celebration without relying solely on downtown transportation options.
