Tijuana Traffic Flow Boost

Efforts in Tijuana aim to ease congestion at hotspots, such as Rosas Magallón Boulevard, through synchronized traffic lights and advanced technology, enhancing urban mobility and public safety.

**Efforts Underway to Improve Traffic Flow from Otay to Rosas Magallón Boulevard**

Efforts are currently underway in Tijuana to mitigate traffic congestion at 17 peak-hour hotspots, according to Apolinar Fernández Álvarez, the head of the Urban and Sustainable Mobility Department (Semov). This initiative includes synchronizing traffic lights with the support of traffic personnel.

One of the critical areas identified is the route from Rosas Magallón Boulevard to the Central Bus Station, including the intersection at 5th and 10th Streets, which experiences heavy traffic in the mornings and afternoons.

The government is testing remote control and synchronization of traffic signals along significant boulevards, such as Agua Caliente and Díaz Ordaz, utilizing state-of-the-art technology. The signals are being controlled and coordinated from a central management system in collaboration with the Urban Development Office.

This Wednesday, additional efforts will focus on the stadium area on Agua Caliente Boulevard, where traffic light synchronization is set to facilitate smoother traffic during an upcoming sports event.

As part of modernizing the city’s traffic management, the installation of fiber optics in traffic lights will allow remote operation from a command center. Currently, work is underway to connect and replace 149 signals with new technology. The installation of audible signals is also planned to enhance accessibility as part of the Municipality’s inclusion program.

– **Navigating Tijuana’s Mobility Challenges**: The lack of proper road signage and synchronized traffic lights continues to challenge mobility in Tijuana, prompting ongoing efforts from local authorities to resolve these issues.

– **Safety Measures at Border Crossings**: A new security checkpoint is set to be installed this Thursday at the San Ysidro border, operational in the Sentri lane from 8:00 AM onwards, to bolster safety and streamline the crossing process.
