The Tijuana Municipal Sports Institute (IMDET) is spearheading efforts to rejuvenate sports facilities across the city. Notably, the soccer field at the Unidad Deportiva Tijuana, one of the most frequented sports venues, is currently undergoing essential rehabilitation due to its constant wear and tear.
“As a team, we’re dedicated to refurbishing the soccer field at Unidad Deportiva Tijuana. While we wish we could overhaul the entire turf, budget constraints mean we can only address the most critical areas,” explained Iván Fierro, head of IMDET. “We’ve conducted an assessment and are awaiting materials to replace the damaged grass, enhancing the facility for the children, youth, and adults who use it.”
Fierro also urged the community to help maintain these vital facilities. “We appeal to everyone to keep these spaces in good condition as they belong to the community. Unfortunately, we’ve seen thefts of various items, from bathroom fixtures to lamp posts and even sections of the turf. Although we have security, we lack the personnel to prevent all these incidents,” he concluded.
