The suspects, identified as Cristopher “N,” aged 21, and Juan Carlos “N,” aged 24, were detained by Tijuana police while allegedly attempting to flee the scene after firing shots at two men.

The shooting took place the previous evening, on March 29, around 9 PM. Victims Jorge Ríos and Juan Manuel Hernández, both 55 years old, were shot while sitting in their gray Dodge Town Country vehicle, which was parked on Third Street at the intersection with Madero Avenue.

In the past month, Tijuana and surrounding areas have seen a surge in violent crimes, spurring local authorities to increase patrols and investigative efforts in an attempt to mitigate these incidents. One particular event on March 30 involved a deadly shooting in the nightclub district of Ensenada, resulting in one fatality and injuries to four others. This increase in violence has caused concern among residents and tourists visiting the region.

Authorities are attributing the uptick in violence to various factors, including increased gang activity and territorial disputes. Police have committed to reinforcing security measures and are working closely with community leaders to address the root causes of these crimes. In nearby Mexicali, efforts are also underway to improve security, as reflected by the announcement of a new municipal police director set to take over on March 29, 2025.

As these events unfold, residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to local law enforcement as part of collective efforts to restore safety and peace in the region.
