### Tijuana Municipal Animal Control Reports 1,900 Pet Adoptions During Current Administration
In the three years of the current administration led by Mayor Monserrat Caballero Ramírez, Tijuana’s Municipal Animal Control (CAM), directed by Juan Domínguez, has facilitated the adoption of 1,900 pets. Domínguez provided a breakdown of these adoptions over the years: 485 pets in 2021, 494 in 2022, 594 in 2023, and nearly 354 so far in 2024.
Additionally, CAM has sterilized over 3,800 pets during this period. However, their goal is to surpass 3,000 sterilizations before the end of Caballero Ramírez’s term.
“In rabies vaccination, we have reached 12,584, and in deworming, the count stands at 10,200,” Domínguez stated. He attributes this success to increased awareness from educational campaigns and wellness events involving city council members. Domínguez also emphasized the importance of regular fumigation during the summer months to prevent tick infestations, recommending treatments every 15 days with pyrethrin-based products—a natural insecticide.
He highlighted that many ticks and fleas breed in the soil, making it essential to fumigate sidewalks, walls, and gardens to reduce these pests. Domínguez also pointed out a higher prevalence of Rickettsia in the city’s peripheral regions, largely due to stray dogs or unvaccinated pets.
