Tijuana Residents Fear Rain Havoc

Residents of Lomas Conjunto fear the rainy season could worsen the imminent collapse of their homes. Amid recurring landslides, authorities’ solutions remain elusive, risking dire consequences for Montes Escandinavos Street dwellers.

Residents of the Lomas Conjunto Residential Development in Tijuana fear that the incoming rainy season may expedite the total collapse of their homes. Despite attending numerous meetings, residents claim that authorities have yet to provide concrete solutions to the ongoing landslide issues affecting their community. With 12 active landslides in Tijuana, the situation is dire, especially for those living on or near Montes Escandinavos Street.

The residents have voiced concerns that the already precarious conditions will worsen with the rains. José Manuel, who lives on the street, explained that traversing the dangerous zone is becoming increasingly difficult. He and other residents must navigate through an abandoned house and a narrow passage to reach vital public transport links. If these paths collapse, it could mean taking longer, more cumbersome routes.

José Luis Jiménez, Director of Municipal Civil Protection, reassured residents that increased supervision of the landslides is underway with the impending rainy season. However, residents like Karla Delgado remain skeptical as tangible action has been lacking. Karla shared that her parents had to leave their home, now in ruins, due to significant land shifting that has already impaired some 273 houses.

The urgency of the situation escalates with each passing day, and residents remain hopeful that effective measures will be implemented before the rains cause further irreparable damage.
