### Over 5,000 Runners Take Part in IMDET’s Athletic Series in Tijuana

On Saturday, the Municipal Sports Institute (IMDET) hosted the sixth stage of the 2024 Delegational Athletic Serial, attracting over 5,000 runners. The event took place in the La Presa Abelardo L. Rodríguez and La Presa Este regions.

The Recreational and Sports Park Cerro de las Abejas served as both the starting point and the finish line for the race, which is part of IMDET’s sports calendar. After a hiatus for the 29th Tijuana International Half Marathon, IMDET resumed its 5-kilometer races in the eastern part of the city. Participants enjoyed a largely flat route with two challenging inclines at the beginning and end of the course.

Mario “Jumi” Martínez triumphed in the men’s category, completing the race in 15 minutes and 16 seconds. He was closely followed by Eduardo Valdez with a time of 15:50, and David Martínez at 15:52. Keysi Ibarra led the women’s category, finishing in 17 minutes and 51 seconds, ahead of Tania Muñoz, who clocked in at 19:04, and Lizzie Sandoval at 19:10.

Participants received the last 4,500 collector’s medals of the 2024 series, with a commemorative medallion set to be awarded at the final stage scheduled for September 21 in the Centro district.

Gerardo López Montes, Secretary of Welfare, and Iván Guadalupe Fierro Gastélum, interim head of IMDET, were present to kick off the event.
