**Over 60 Hours Without Power in Chapultepec California, Tijuana: Residents Speak Out**

Residents of Chapultepec California in Tijuana have voiced their frustration over a prolonged power outage stretching to more than 60 hours. Alicia Corona Pérez, a resident of the neighborhood, reported that the cause was the breakdown of a 25-kilowatt transformer on Florencia and Estocolmo streets.

Corona Pérez highlighted that 48 houses were impacted by this outage. Despite repeated calls to the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) at their emergency number, 071, the issue remained unresolved. “We keep calling for updates, and they tell us it’s fixed, but it’s not,” she added. “Everyone here is under pressure.”

Her concerns are more than just an inconvenience. Her elderly mother, who relies on oxygen, faced significant health risks. Despite this, CFE personnel suggested she take her mother to the hospital. Corona Pérez herself has diabetes, and without power, her insulin spoiled due to the lack of refrigeration, along with other food items. “We had to throw away three bags of groceries,” she lamented.

The power seemingly came back for just a minute on Monday, September 9, before going out again in the entire neighborhood and surrounding areas.

Chapultepec California is situated along Boulevard Gustavo Díaz Ordaz in the La Mesa delegation. According to Corona Pérez, this is not the first instance. Last month, the power was out for eight hours, disrupting the water pumping system, and in January 2024, the entire neighborhood was without power for 37 hours.

Despite reaching out for information, a response from the CFE is still pending.

In addition to the recent incident in Chapultepec California, other areas in Tijuana have also been facing power outages. Earlier this year, residents of neighborhoods like Playas de Tijuana and Otay Mesa experienced interruptions that lasted several hours. Reports indicated similar causes, such as transformer failures and infrastructural issues.

Many residents have expressed disappointment in the reliability of the CFE and the apparent slow response to these crises. On social media platforms like Facebook and community forums, frustrated inhabitants are sharing their experiences, with some reporting medication spoilage and financial losses because of these outages.

Tijuana’s municipal authorities have promised to address these issues and coordinate with the CFE for faster resolution times. However, with recurring outages, many residents remain skeptical about the effectiveness of these measures.
