### San Antonio de los Buenos Plant to Operate by December

The construction of the San Antonio de los Buenos water treatment plant in Tijuana is nearing completion and is set to be operational by December, according to Arturo Espinoza Jaramillo, head of the Secretariat of Infrastructure and Territorial Development (Sidurt). As of now, fifty percent of the equipment has arrived at the facility, which includes pumps, cleaning systems, and chlorination devices.

Espinoza Jaramillo noted that the completion of the civil works is expected by October, with testing phases commencing in the following month. “We need to ensure thorough testing because the quality of the incoming wastewater can vary,” he stated.

In a recent meeting with officials from Imperial Beach’s government and the United States section of the International Boundary and Water Commission (CILA), it was agreed that the plant should be “stabilized” by December. Espinoza Jaramillo expressed confidence that “by December, we will have 100 percent clean water.”

#### Ongoing Water Scarcity Concerns Affecting Baja California

The shortage of water in the Colorado River remains a pressing issue for Baja California. Continued drought conditions in the southwestern United States have exacerbated the situation, impacting water availability for both agricultural and urban needs in the region.

Local authorities are working on multiple fronts to mitigate the water crisis, including infrastructure projects like the San Antonio de los Buenos plant. However, water conservation measures and long-term planning are critical to address the persistent scarcity.

According to the latest data, the combination of reduced water levels in key reservoirs and increasing water demand has led to stricter water usage regulations. Experts emphasize the importance of sustainable water management practices to ensure long-term water security for Baja California and surrounding areas.
