### Inauguration of Cerro de las Abejas Recreational and Sports Park Rushed Despite Ongoing Construction

Tijuana – The Cerro de las Abejas Recreational and Sports Park was inaugurated recently, although several parts of the complex remain under construction, including a baseball field and a jogging track around the perimeter, among other details.

This project, with a budget of 192.7 million pesos, aims to provide a variety of sports facilities including soccer fields, seven-a-side soccer, basketball, volleyball, an amphitheater, skateboarding areas, crossfit zones, and hiking access to Cerro de las Abejas.

Iván Fierro, the acting director of the Tijuana Municipal Sports Institute (Imdet), mentioned that the park is expected to attract a high number of visitors from the local area. “The goal is to receive 20,000 people every month, as it is the largest park in the eastern part of the city,” he said.

The park will be open from Monday to Sunday, from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

### Secondary Article: Urban Parks’ Role in Community Health and Social Interaction

As cities like Tijuana rapidly expand, urban parks and green spaces become ever more crucial for residents’ well-being. A recent study highlighted that parks significantly contribute to physical health, mental well-being, and community cohesion. Enhancing public spaces in urban areas can lead to decreased stress levels, improved cardiovascular health, and greater opportunities for social interaction.

In densely populated areas where living spaces may be limited, parks offer an essential respite from the urban environment. They provide safe spaces for physical exercise and community events, fostering a sense of belonging and improving overall quality of life.

Given these benefits, urban planners and local governments are encouraged to prioritize the development and maintenance of parks to ensure they meet the needs of growing populations. This global trend aligns with the efforts seen in Tijuana and many other cities worldwide to enhance community infrastructure through comprehensive and accessible recreational facilities.
