In a commendable acknowledgment of their dedication to crime prevention, six officers from the Municipal Police were awarded the Police Merit by the Council for the Safety and Social Well-being of Tijuana. The recognition took place on the morning of September 20, 2024, highlighting the significant contributions these officers have made to the community.

Ismael Estrada Maldonado, a lifetime advisor and founder of the association, noted that the awardees were chosen following a thorough evaluation of their efforts in various neighborhoods and districts represented by the civil association.

“The work performed by the crime prevention officers, the formation of safety committees, the specific crime prevention programs they implement in neighborhoods, their approach towards residents, and most importantly, improvements in public safety resulting from these activities, are among the factors we considered,” Estrada Maldonado explained.

The association encompasses over 40 neighborhoods, including Ejido Francisco Villa, Colonia Agrarista, El Chicote, Santa Fe Segunda Sección, Isla Cozumel de Fraccionamiento El Rosario, Lomas del Mar, Terrazas de San Ángel, Ley del Servicio Civil, Lagunitas, Lomas Encantadas, and Loma Blanca.

Estrada Maldonado expressed concern over the increasing challenges in public safety but acknowledged that community participation is crucial in improving conditions.

The officers receiving the Police Merit were: María Luisa Munguía Ramírez, Director of Crime Prevention and Citizen Participation in Tijuana; Daysi Rosales Aguilar, Head of Crime Prevention; Jonathan Nolasco Contreras, Head of Community Liaison; and crime prevention officers Jazmín Cerón Sánchez, Angélica Machado, and Genaro Callado Flores.

“The liaison area is particularly sensitive and noble within the corporation because it involves direct contact with citizens, addressing their issues, often beyond service hours,” stated Miguel Ángel Araujo Higuera, Deputy Director of Crime Prevention and Citizen Participation in Tijuana, who attended the ceremony on behalf of the director.

Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Rosales Aguilar said, “We are very pleased, on behalf of my colleagues, to be recognized. We perform our duties with enthusiasm, knowing that not all officers have the courage to engage with citizens, especially when some colleagues do not meet expectations.”
