**Municipal Officer Killed in Tijuana’s La Gloria Neighborhood**
A tragic incident occurred on Friday, February 14, 2025, as a municipal police officer in Tijuana lost his life in the line of duty. The officer was responding to an emergency call regarding an armed assault in the La Gloria neighborhood, specifically at the Motel La Gloria located on Boulevard Cuauhtémoc Sur in the Santa Fe delegation.
The emergency services received a call at 17:16 PM reporting an attack involving armed individuals in a gold-colored Expedition vehicle. As the Municipal Police arrived at the scene, the suspects opened fire upon sighting the officers. This encounter led to the injury of Officer Jesús Armando González Gutiérrez, who was swiftly taken to the Red Cross but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
Security forces managed to apprehend the initial suspect, Joaquín Castro Cruz. He had an active warrant for qualified homicide and was known to be a violent figure in the Santa Fe district. Authorities have linked him to a faction of the Arellano Félix Cartel (CAF), under the leadership of “Rápido,” who is currently detained, and another member known as “El Chapito.”
During the encounter, another individual, Karina Lizeth Mendoza Cruz, aged 27, was also detained. The police seized several items, including the Ford Expedition vehicle with California plates 3WDF470 and a firearm found inside the vehicle.
