Tijuana Molotov Arrests

Tijuana faces rising tensions as businesses become targets of violence. Recent Molotov cocktail attacks provoke heightened security measures and community calls for vigilance against further incidents.

**Molotov Cocktail Attack on Tijuana Business Lands Two Behind Bars**

In the early hours of Tuesday, March 25, 2025, two individuals launched a Molotov cocktail at the facade of the Café Baristi located in Tijuana’s Zona Río. The perpetrators were swiftly apprehended by local police. Reports indicate that around 2:10 AM, the suspects, dressed in black, approached the establishment on Paseo de los Héroes and Misión de Mulegé. After a brief exchange with the security guard, inquiring if the café was open and receiving a negative response, the attackers threw a Molotov cocktail, causing a partial fire.

The assailants fled the scene in a green Jeep Cherokee heading west on the Vía Rápida. A police operation ensued, successfully leading to their arrest on Bulevar Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez in the colonia El Florido Segunda Sección, near Bar Anabel. The getaway vehicle was seized and later identified as stolen.

One suspect, Gustavo Aguilar Montes, sustained injuries during the event and is currently under medical supervision at the General Hospital while in custody. Thanks to the quick response of the café’s security guard and the use of a fire extinguisher, the blaze was contained, preventing further damage.

This incident marks the second Molotov cocktail attack on a business in less than two weeks in Tijuana. Previously, on March 12, a man was detained for a similar attack on Calzapatos in the Mariano Matamoros area.

**Rising Tensions Highlighted by Recent String of Attacks**

Tijuana has been on edge following a string of violent incidents, with businesses increasingly under threat. Last month’s attempted Molotov cocktail attacks have triggered heightened security measures and growing concerns among local business owners. Just this month, Café Baristi became the latest victim of an alarming trend that highlights the city’s ongoing struggle with crime and security threats.

Community members are calling for stronger preventative measures and increased police presence to deter further incidents. Authorities are collaborating with local businesses to develop strategies for enhanced safety protocols, aiming to prevent future attacks and restore a sense of security in the region.

This rise in violent incidents serves as a stark reminder of the broader issues facing Tijuana and the importance of community-wide cooperation in addressing crime and ensuring public safety. Police investigations are ongoing as authorities seek to bring all responsible parties to justice and curb the potential for future incidents.
