**Tijuana Mayor Attends Global Design Policy Conference in San Diego**

The Mayor of Tijuana, Ismael Burgueño Ruiz, recently attended the prestigious World Design Policy Conference held in San Diego. This event is part of World Design Capital 2024, an initiative that unites the binational region of San Diego and Tijuana, showcasing their collaboration for mutual development and progress.

During the conference, Burgueño Ruiz, accompanied by Illya Haro, head of the Municipal Institute of Art and Culture, emphasized this event as an ideal platform to demonstrate the commitment of both cities in areas such as the economy, culture, environment, and society. By leveraging design as a driver of change, the initiative aims to elevate the quality of life for their residents.

“This designation offers us a unique opportunity to transform our mega-region, rich in diversity and creativity, with initiatives and projects that emerge from this year of joint efforts, as a collective responsibility,” remarked the Tijuana mayor. He further stated that the XXV Tijuana City Council is committed to continuing high-impact social projects, ensuring strong results for the transborder region through collaborative efforts.

Notably, this marks the first instance, in 16 years of the program, where a whole region, rather than just a single city, has been selected as a host—demonstrating the efficacy of teamwork towards common goals in shaping the cities of tomorrow.

Speaking on this momentous occasion, San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria said, “Here, we gather with a shared purpose: to shape a future that transcends borders and enhances the well-being of urban areas worldwide. With design at the heart of our focus, San Diego and Tijuana embody unity and innovation. Together, we transcend our border, making our mega-region not just a hub for international collaboration, but also an example of what the future holds.”

This conference, held on November 12 and 13, also includes workshops addressing urban design management and binational collaboration, especially focusing on innovation, border issues, health, well-being, and the creative sector.
