**Tijuana City Council Expects Malecón Construction to Resume Next Week**

The long-awaited construction of the Tijuana Playas Malecón is projected to resume next week, following the installation of appropriate signage and the submission of necessary documentation to the State Civil Protection Coordination, revealed Marco Antonio Campoy Arce, Director of Municipal Public Works and Urban Infrastructure.

Campoy highlighted the urgency of resuming work to construct a retaining wall on the southern end to prevent weather-related issues such as sinkholes or landslides, particularly in higher areas. He emphasized that failing to proceed with the retaining wall could result in significant damage to the street and nearby properties, which were not anticipated in the original project plan.

The project, which was halted on September 13 due to inadequate signage and lack of safeguards in hazardous areas, had been allocated a budget of 200 million pesos by Montserrat Caballero Ramírez’s administration. The construction efforts, which began in late June and have achieved 20% completion, involved dismantling the wooden boardwalk and laying the foundation.

The documentation for the project will be submitted by Urbanizadora ROMA S.A. de C.V., the contracted company. Additionally, the municipality has already presented the necessary rehabilitation documents to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat), although approval from the federal government is still pending.

Campoy clarified that this is a rehabilitation project, not a new construction, and adheres to the Environmental Impact Statement authorized in 2009. The Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) will oversee the review.

Compatos expressed that additional permissions from local business owners near the border wall have not been obtained yet, but efforts to secure their cooperation are ongoing. The municipality is ensuring that pedestrian pathways are accessible during construction.

Mayor Montserrat Caballero Ramírez emphasized that the 200 million pesos investment had been fully paid, and the project is moving forward transparently following Civil Protection observations.

**Tijuana Seeks to Boost Coastal Tourism With Malecón Renovation**

As Tijuana plans to restart the Malecón de Playas renovation, local authorities are optimistic about the project’s potential to enhance tourism and local economy. With an investment of 200 million pesos, the Tijuana City Council aims to improve the infrastructure and aesthetics of the coastal area, which has historically been a significant attraction for both residents and visitors.

The project not only involves constructing a retaining wall to mitigate natural erosion and ensure safety but also aims to modernize the boardwalk area to attract more tourists. This revitalization is seen as a strategic move to leverage Tijuana’s scenic coastal line, blending urban development with environmental sustainability.

“We are committed to making Tijuana a top destination for both national and international tourists,” said Campoy. “The rehabilitation of the Malecón de Playas is just one of many steps we are taking to ensure our city is safe, beautiful, and welcoming.”

The project is anticipated to be completed in phases to minimize disruptions while ensuring rigorous safety and environmental standards. As Tijuana braces for the upcoming tourist season, the city’s investment in infrastructure is expected to yield significant returns in economic growth and community engagement.
