### Tijuana Federal Judicial Workers Protest at Baja California Congress

**Tijuana** – Workers of the Federal Judicial Power (PJF) from Tijuana traveled to Mexicali this Wednesday to be present at the Baja California Congress session where the local approval of reforms to the organization is set to take place.

Karen Donay Valdéz Virgen, Secretary of the Collegiate Appeals Court of the 15th District, stated that this move was prompted after the early morning approval of the PJF reform initiative by the Senate with a majority of 86 votes.

“The result in the Senate yesterday was unfortunate and frustrating, though it was also expected by many federation workers,” Valdéz Virgen said. The purpose of their presence, she added, is to apply pressure and show solidarity with colleagues who faced repression in the Senate.

Valdéz Virgen also mentioned that the partial work stoppage will continue indefinitely until further notice.

### Related Update: National Framework for Judicial Reform

In related developments, the broader judicial reform has stirred reactions beyond Tijuana. The national framework for this reform, which aims to overhaul the Federal Judicial Power, has now moved to state legislatures for approval.

This reform package includes several significant changes, such as streamlining court processes and redefining judicial roles, which supporters argue will enhance efficiency and accountability within the judiciary.

Critics, however, voice concerns that the reforms could undermine judicial independence and lead to increased governmental control over the courts.

In locations across the country, similar protests and partial strikes have been reported as employees and judicial officials push back against what they perceive as detrimental changes to their working conditions and the integrity of the judicial system.

The reform will impact an estimated 160 judges and magistrates in Baja California alone, according to local reports.
