Starting Monday, September 16, local runners will have the opportunity to participate in qualification sessions for the highly anticipated Tijuana International Mile 2024. This prestigious event, organized by the Municipal Sports Institute, led by Iván Fierro, is a major highlight in Tijuana’s sporting calendar.
To qualify for the Elite category, male runners must achieve a time of 4’40”, while female runners must clock in at 5’20”. International participants can qualify in the 1500 meters with times of 4’05” for men and 4’40” for women.
Athletes wishing to participate in the qualification sessions must schedule their appointments with the Tijuana Municipal Athletics League (LIMAT), which will oversee the attempts from September 16 to October 7. Sessions will be held from 7:00 to 8:00 AM on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Appointments must be made at least 24 hours in advance via LIMAT, the State Athletics Association of Baja California, or by calling 664 558 3066. Out-of-state runners must present authorization from the Mexican Federation of Athletics Associations (FMAA).
The main event will be held on Friday, October 11, starting at 4:00 PM at the CREA Sports Unit track. The top five elite male and female runners will receive awards, with a total prize pool of nearly 70,000 pesos; the first place will receive 15,000 pesos, the second 10,000 pesos, the third 5,000 pesos, the fourth 3,000 pesos, and the fifth 1,500 pesos.
Last year’s winners included Fernanda Medina in the female category with a time of 5:00.09, and Fernando Martínez in the male category with a time of 4:07.11.
