In a continued effort to address community needs, the local government in Tijuana, led by Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz, organized a comprehensive Wellbeing Fair in the Praderas de la Mesa area, within the Cerro Colorado delegation. This event attracted over 3,000 residents and aimed to provide practical solutions to various local issues.

During the event, Mayor Burgueño emphasized the importance of such initiatives, declaring, “The people dictate our actions. You tell us what’s needed, and we deliver. Through our ‘Wednesday of Delegation’ program, we remain committed to actively listing and responding to community requests across all sectors.”

Part of the event’s highlights was the distribution of school essentials and electronic tablets to local students, designed to enhance educational outcomes and facilitate access to technology. The Secretary of Wellbeing, Erik Morales Elvira, underscored the significance of these fairs by saying, “The Mayor has instructed us to closely serve the community, ensuring equitable access to public services and social programs.”

In conjunction with the fair, nine units of the new “DIF en Movimiento” (DIF in Motion) program were launched, with the first being inaugurated by Mayor Burgueño and the Director of Municipal DIF, Paola Nohemí Leyva Izaguirre. These units will provide direct access to DIF services across each delegation.

The fair offered a variety of services, including donations of plants and trees, vision exams, food packages, psychological support, legal advice, medical consultations, vaccinations, vital signs monitoring, screenings for chronic diseases, and distribution of prophylactics, among others. Notable attendees included Fausto Gallardo and Evangelina Moreno Guerra, Federal Deputies; Gilberto Herrera Solórzano; Teresita de Jesús Balderas Beltrán, Trustee Prosecutor; among other local officials and community members.

Tijuana is set to host the “Tijuana Multicultural” Artisan Expo, showcasing the richness of its indigenous communities. This event invites locals and tourists alike to immerse themselves in the diverse cultural heritage represented by artisanal crafts.

In other local government updates, new policies are being proposed to address various welfare and public order issues in Tijuana. Among these initiatives is an effort to amend existing legislation to better address child labor issues at street crossings and traffic lights. Additionally, the council is deliberating more stringent penalties for the illegal sale of animals on public thoroughfares to combat increasing animal cruelty, highlighted by councilor Michel García Arceo.

These, along with ongoing rehabilitation needs for the city’s sports facilities, indicate a year of substantial community-focused projects and reforms, aligning with the current administration’s emphasis on enhancing public welfare and infrastructure development.
