**New Hospital Opens in Tijuana’s Eastern Zone**
After nearly two years of construction, the new General Hospital of the Eastern Zone in Tijuana, branded under the IMSS Bienestar program, has officially opened as of November 6th. Located on Fuentes de Mexicali Street in Las Fuentes neighborhood, adjacent to Boulevard 2000, this hospital offers free healthcare services regardless of IMSS affiliation.
Built by Conceptos Constructivos Modernos S.A. de C.V., the facility covers 23,691 square meters. It includes six operating rooms, seven consultation rooms, two emergency rooms, and 110 inpatient beds, alongside 20 beds in the emergency area. It is also equipped with modern imaging and a state-of-the-art CT scanner.
The hospital will provide various specialties including internal medicine, gynecology and obstetrics, orthopedics, family planning and psychology, cardiology, otolaryngology, pediatrics, and emergency care. Some of the initially planned specialties such as trauma care, adult and neonatal intensive care units, and a blood bank did not make it to the final offering.
Currently staffed by 21 healthcare professionals, the hospital is actively seeking additional personnel through the “Wellness Doctors and Nurses” program. The hospital aims to cater to approximately 289,000 individuals with a commitment to free and universal healthcare.
The construction and equipping of the hospital cost a total of 626 million pesos, allocated as 273 million pesos for infrastructure and 353 million pesos for equipment. The site was originally obtained by the Tijuana City Council in 2002 and was officially donated to the state in March 2023 under former Mayor Montserrat Caballero RamÃrez’s administration.
