High temperatures in Tijuana are projected to continue through Wednesday, causing disruptions such as power outages in various neighborhoods, according to Miguel Ángel Ceballos Ramírez, the head of the Municipal Civil Protection Directorate of Tijuana.
On Monday, the eastern areas of the city, known for their higher temperatures, could experience highs of up to 34 degrees Celsius. The forecast for Tuesday predicts temperatures as high as 29 degrees, with a slight drop to between 24 and 25 degrees on Wednesday.
In response to the heat, officials are urging residents to take necessary precautions. Recommendations include leaving vehicle windows open if a person or pet must remain inside, staying hydrated, and ensuring homes are well-ventilated. Furthermore, due to increased fire risks, it is advised to have smoke detectors and fire extinguishers readily available.
Ceballos Ramírez noted that the high temperatures have led to power outages due to increased electricity consumption. Areas such as Otay, Playas de Tijuana, and Cacho experienced temporary power cuts due to system overloads.
Despite the heat, there is currently no recommendation to suspend in-person classes, and this decision is left to the discretion of individual educational institutions. Some schools, including private institutions and Preparatoria Federal Lázaro Cárdenas, have opted for online classes to avoid exposing students to the intense heat.
